Abstract

This working paper focused on a project to develop a special software known as Edutainment: FunKids, an application to assist children of age between three to six years old in their learning and playing process of mastering letters and phrases.
This application will be the daily learning guide for children to familiarize themselves into languages, especially Bahasa Malaysia. This application software were
built in two essential parts, i.e. learning basic letters and learning basic phrases. Systematic working exercises in both parts were prepared for children to work on it in
improving their basic skills and knowledge for mastering the letters and phrases.
Development of this educational software will further contribute towards the inevitable paperless surroundings, beside to attract and enhance the interest of new generation and youth in their educational development. The method in which the software was developed is called Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). SDLC was
established through six phases, which include Planning, Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Operation and Maintenance. Children, teachers and parents were the three subjects chosen for testing in determining the effectiveness of this developed software.
The prime consideration behind developing this special application lies form the fact that communication skill of Malaysian society (youth in particular) need to be further enhanced, and thus in calculate their interest to read and manage information received systematically.
