Abstract
This study is aimed at looking into the perception of secondary school principals regarding their present duties and roles. The researcher compares the perceptions between the importance of duty and perception of role with their implementations. The researcher also looks into other contributing factors such as sex, age, experience and in-service courses towards the perception of the principals on their duty and role. A study is conducted on 13 principals of fully government secondary schools in the district of Kerian, Perak. Out of this total, 9 are males and 4 female principals. The questionnaire used consists of 12 demographic items and 28 items related to duties and roles of these principals. With the help and guidance from the supervisors, the raw data from this study are analyzed using "Rasch Analysis". The finding from this study show that there is no significant difference between the perceptions on the importance of duty and role with the actual duties and roles that are being implemented by the principals. The findings also show that there is no significant difference between age, sex, experience and in-service course towards the perception of principals on their duties and roles.
