Abstract

The purpose of this research is to explore the electricity energy consumption that being used in Universiti Utara Malaysia in all-purpose and also the energy consumption among students that are staying in the Universiti Utara Malaysia campus college and also determining the alertness level of them in a matter of efficient energy consumption. The pattern of the energy consumption is valued based on two criteria that are overall electricity utilization and the user behaviour whereby the alertness level of the students were valued based on knowledge, practice and their behaviour itself. There are 450 students that are staying in 14 college in the whole of UUM has been randomly picked as the respondents in this research. The instrument for this research is questionnaires where it combines two main research objectives and also using frequency analysis method. The questionnaires are analyzed using “Statistical Package for Science” software. The outcome shows that the utilization trend is obviously shown with the increment of
college occupants’ utilization in the period of learning semester and that decline when the semester break starts. The college occupants not only using equipments that are
allowed by the management far beyond the actual need, this increment is also influence by the energy consumption that is not approved by UUM. This research also shows that
the understanding level of the college occupants to the efficiency energy consumption is even. Most of the college occupants do understand about how they really need to save
energy but there are no motivation to do that. This research outcome also shows that there is a particular relationship between the energy consumption behaviours with the understanding of the energy efficiency.
