Abstract

The objective for this study was to identify the factors that influence engineers in Company A in making their career choice especially between technical career and managerial career. This is critical not only to Company A only but to the whole electric and electronics industry in Malaysia in order to ensure appropriate action being taken to increase the number of engineers that continue to stay in
technical path. Not much career choice research exists currently especially in the engineering industry in Asia. Three research questions were developed to achieve the objective for this study. Quantitative study using structured questionnaire was used to collect the data for
hypothesis testing. The population for this study was the Research and Development engineers in Company A. Electronic questionnaire was distributed to the sample of engineers in various buildings after the face validity was conducted. Result indicated intrinsic factor was the only factor that has significant effect to Company A engineer in making their career choice. There was no significant difference in career choice between males and females engineers.
