Abstract

Important factor that came out of the study and which influenced the need or necessity to adopt an internet broadband was people's social experience with ICTs. Many people who adopted these technologies were clearly influenced by significant others in their environment that were already using them. Experiencing adoption and use within a social environment creates an awareness and understanding of an ICT, as well as involving peer-pressure. Internet broadband seems to contain an important
social emotional meaning for business stakeholders and youngsters especially and was seen by some of them as a part of social identity. The social environment also
influences the use of certain functions of an ICT. The objective of this study is to examine the relationship between personal preferences and lifestyle on perceived
need or necessity to internet broadband adoption and to examine the relationship between ICT characteristics on perceived need or necessity to internet broadband adoption in Tripoli of Libya. Using quantitative analysis, the study confirms the positive direct significant influence of predictors on dependent variable. Furthermore, to study the broadband as future technologies adoption by service
providers and the corresponding initiatives and business models undertaken by the industry to increase broadband penetration for the countries within Libya region. The
significant influence of predictors on internet broadband adoption will serves as general information for the reference of Libya member-states in charting their respective broadband and future technologies to increase the broadband penetration in their home countries. Also, the output of the study will serves as reference for
provider in Libya as member-states in charting or re-aligning their respective policies and initiatives to increase the broadband penetration in the business sectors.
