Abstract

This study was carried out to obtain the views of teachers in schools regarding the importance of teamwork and the factors determining the achievement of teamwork in
schools. Teamwork is considered important to most researchers in the effort to improve quality in an organisation. A school is an educational organisation which
stresses on quality aiming to provide world class education. The purpose of the study was to find out whether there were differences among teachers on the importance of teamwork and factors determine the achievement of teamwork. The teachers view could be affected by gender, age, academic qualification, position held in school and length of service. In addition, this study aimed to show whether attendence in TQM courses influenced the views of teachers towards teamwork. 200 respondents were randomly chosen from 20 schools in Kuala Muda district, Kedah Darul Aman to take part in the survey using a 34 item questionnaire. Only 175 forms were returned and completed. The questionnaire was divided into 2 sections. Sections A contained 6 questions answered by indicating the choice the given boxes, whereas section B contained 28 questions in fhe Likert scale. The data obtained was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics in SPSS version 9.0. In the study, 6 hypotheses were tested using the t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation method and the reliability analysis using the Cronbach Alpha method in a Not study. The results of
the analysis indicated that the views of the teachers towards the importance of teamwork and the factors determining the achievement of teamwork were sidcantly
related to their position held in school. In contrast, this study indicated that there were no significant difference between teachers views on teamwork and their age, gender, academic qualifications and length of service. The results also showed that the views of the teachers on teamwork were significantly related to attendance in TQM courses.
