Abstract

This study is being carried out to identify the Principal's most dominant leadership style in National school based on teacher's view and relationship with teachers' stress level in Kulim. The leadership style that is being studied is the structured dimensional leadership and considerate dimension leadership. The survey and research was participated by seven national schools in Kulim, Kedah with 243 population of teachers. Respondents were 152 teachers which was chosen randomly out of the total percentage of teachers from schools that participated in the study. The teachers' stress level is being studied based on the Principal's leadership style either by structured or considerate dimension style. Teachers' stress level are categorised to three levels namely low, medium and high. Datas collected are analysed with the Statistical Package software for School Science (SPSS 12) for Windows. The Principal's leadership style was tested by using LBDQ questionnaire instrument (Leadership Behavior Description Questionnaire). Datas processed involved the descriptive statistics namely frequency measurement, mean score, standard deviation and percentage. The instrument credibility value is 0.83. Study findings shows that Principal uses both leadership style namely by structured dimension and considerate dimension with the value of (min=3.35). Nevertheless, Principal exerts more to structured dimension leadership
style compared to considerate dimension style. Teachers' overall stress level were on moderate level with the value of (min=3.27). Principal's leadership style also showed a
significant connection with teacher's stress. However, the connection are weak and negatively between the structured leadership style with teacher's stress (r = -.34). While considerate relationship style connection with teacher's stress is also significant but with weak positive relationship (r = .38).
