Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify whether there is a relationship between
environmental factors and organizational factors with stress among police officers in the
area of Kuala Lumpur. The study was conducted in police stations around the district of Cheras, Brickfields, Wangsa Maju, Dang Wangi, Sentul and Putrajaya to over 347 police
officers representing a population of 3663 police officers around Kuala Lumpur. The
instrument of this study had been adapted and restrutured the questionnaire used by Arjunaidi (1997) who also studied stressors among police officers in the state of Perlis. The reliability rate (Cronbach alpha) for the entire instrument used in this study was 0.885, which is very nice and the data was analyzed using IBM Statistical Software Packages for Social Science (SPSS) version 22. To achieve the results of the study, descriptive and inferential statistics were use. Descriptive analysis was use to examine the frequency distribution, percentage and mean score for respondents' demographic items, while inferential analysis were use to test the hypotheses that have been developed with the aim of assessing the degree of acceptance or rejection of the hypothesis by using reliability analysis, normality, correlation and regression. The results of the analysis
carried out revealed that the family social relationships (ß = -0,186, p <0.5), work
environment (ß = -0,219, p <0.5), organizational structure (ß = -0,194, p <0.5) and career development (ß = -0,183, p <0.5) to predict the stress significantly. While society social relationships (ß = -0.32, p> 0.5) is not a significant predictor variables for the stress.
