Abstract
This study aimed to examine gender and learning styles and academic achievement. The study was conducted in four secondary schools in Mukim Tendong, Pasir Mas, Kelantan. Among the objectives of the study was to identify gender differences based on the five learning styles and to identify relationships between the five
learning style and academic achievement. Dependent variables in this study is academic achievement. While the independent variable consists of five factors of gender and learning styles are examined. The study was conducted on 280 students from four of the total student population of 1038 people. Design of the study is descriptive method by using descriptive statistical comparison of frequencies and
percentages. Instrument study was a questionnaire which has three parts consisting
of part A part B and C. Survey results were analyzed using computer software Statistical Packages for Social Science (SPSS) version 12.0. Data were analyzed to determine differences between gender and learning sty:es using t-test and Pearson correlation test was to determine the relationship between learning style and academic achievement. Results showed that learning styles and gender are significant differences between males and females. This study provides an understanding that female students overcome learning styles of boys from the overall mean obtained. The results of analysis of the relationship of learning styles and academic achievement results showed that there was a significant correlation between environmental and sociological aspects of academic achievement. Accordingly, the proposed further research be conducted with focus on the broader learning styles and their relation to academic achievement to a range of schools as to
whether a gender schools, fully residential schools, national-type schools and other
educational institutions before engaging any of the policies and policy
