Abstract

The purpose of the study is to identify the relationship between principals transformation leadership behaviour with the teachers commitment. The study was carried out on 508 teachers from 12 secondary schools in the district of Kuala Muda/Yan in Kedah Darulaman. Two types of instruments were used in this study. The transformation leadership behaviour was determined using Bass's Multifactor
Leadership Questionnaire Form 5X-Rater (1992). Meanwhile, the teachers' commitment was determined using Peter and Smith (1974), Organizational Commitment Questionnaire (OCQ).
The data were analyzed using 'Statistical Package for Social Sciences for Windows' version 15.0. The data has been analysed using the descriptive statistics method to find out the frequency, percentage, mean and the irrelevant factors. The inference statistics method is used to test the hypothesis through the t test, ANOVA and Pearson Correlation at the significant level p< 0.05. The results of the study showed that the transformation leadership behaviour among the principals in Kuala Muda/Yan district seems to be at the higher level. The results also showed that there were significant effects between principals' leadership styles and the teachers' commitment. The results showed that there were
no significant level for the teachers commitment based on their demographic
characteristic in terms of gender, race and age. Meanwhile the results also showed that were no significant level for the teachers' commitment based on their demographic characteristics in terms of academic, service duration and the duration of knowing the principal
