This paper attempts to make a comparative study between the accounting education and training in Malaysia and the United Kingdom (UK). It addresses the historical background of the accounting education and practice for both countries, the nature of the present systems and their development until recently. This study tries to identify (1)differences and similarities between the system of these countries; (2)strengths and weaknesses of the present accounting educational system in Malaysia and to recommend ways in which to improve it. Further, it is also attempts to contribute to a better understanding of the accounting educational system in Malaysia. The study is based on data collected from educational institutions, professional organisations and available literature, both in these two nations. The study will be limited only to the accounting educational system at university and professional level. However where appropriate the involvement of other institutions or colleges will be mentioned briefly. The study indicates that the differences between the system of these countries are - not differences in the basic conception of the accounting programme but differences in their operation. At professional level, the system in Malaysia has moved in the same line with the UK. However at university level there are some American influence. The accounting education in Malaysia still confronts with some problems and needs further actions to improve it.
