Abstract

The main reason in doing these questionnaires is to know about the duty of the teachers in secondary school in the district of Kota Bharu. In specific, these questionnaires to know about (1) the amount of time used by the teachers to do the tasks given to them; (2) types of tasks that were given; (3) tasks given according to gender and school grade and (4) teachers’ perception towards the tasks given. Hundred teachers have given their response to these questionnaires (survey)- one method in gathering
information. All the information gathered has been analyzed using SPSS-PC4 package. The frequency and the percentage that has been calculated were present in table form.
From the survey, it shows that the average job done by the teacher is 64.21 hour per week. From this amount a total of 39.59 hour per week (61.7%) used to complete the academic task and 24.62 hour per week (38.3%) to complete non-academic task. Most of the teachers were given five different tasks like form teachers, specific duties and duties in co-curriculum. Beside that comparison between gender and the school grade in terms of hours used to complete the tasks that were given were also known.
Female teachers used more time; 64.58 hour per week to do the academic and non-academic tasks meanwhile male teachers used only 63.35 hour per week to do the same tasks. In term of the school grade, it shows that teachers in school grade A used 64.88 hour per week to do academic and non-academic tasks but teachers in school grade B used only 62.34 hour per week. In conclusion, the teachers’ perception towards the tasks that were given was a burden to them.
Based on the survey that had been performed, the writer suggests that this survey should be continued on to find whether the amount of tasks given to the teachers will effect their performance in teachings or not. This survey
must be done in the secondary school today.
