Abstract

The focus of this research is on the learning styles of the teacher trainees. It also looked into the relationship between learning styles and achievement in examination, gender, race and option subjects besides identifying the most influential variable over learning styles.
One hundred and forty-seven respondents were stratified randomly chosen from the Institut Perguruan Darulaman, Jitra , Kedah Darulaman. They were the fifth semester
teacher trainees, June 1997 Intake, who were attending the Diploma Perguruan Malaysia course.
The results of the research were finalized by using various analysis methods in the Statistical Package of Social Sciences (SPSS) which includes mean, standard deviation, corelation, t-test, chi-square and simple linear regression.
The study showed that there is no significant relationship between learning styles and achievement, gender and option subjects. However, there is a significant relationship
between learning styles and race. Race was also found to be the most influential variable.
Further research should be done to identify other variables which can affect, improve or enhance the learning styles of students such the teaching styles of teachers.
