Abstract
A total of 56 rubber commercial estates in Malaysia was
surveyed to assess their adoption rate on 22 new technologies which had been introduced by the Rubber Research Institute of Malaysia (RRIM). Results from the
survey had shown that 80 percent of the estates were adopting new technologies at a moderate level. Only seven (7) of the new technologies were popularly adopted by more than 80 percent of the estates surveyed. Size of the estate was found to be one of the factor affecting technology adoption. Estates of the larger size were likely to adopt new technology at a moderate level of adoption. Education levels and working experiences of managers were also found to affect the decisions toward adopting new technologies. The manager with higher education level and longer years of service in estates were adopting new technologies at a higher rate. Furthermore, it was found that the lack of information attributed greatly to the low rate of new technology adoption. Finally, this survey suggested that the extension agents play more active role in imp1ementing the extension activities effectively to speed up the adoption of new technology.
