Abstract

Takaful is a name for a syariah-compliant insurance which can be used as an alternative to choosing a conventional insurance that features Riba', Gharar and Maisir. Takaful and Insurance have two different contracts although they both have the same purpose of fulfilling the requirements for participants' risk. Generally, the problems faced by the Muslim community are not fully accepted and subscribed to Takaful, which is free from the fundamental non-Islamic principles of Islam. The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors of CIMB Bank's customer‟s participation in Takaful. In addition, to provide the right understanding and information to the Muslim community in
particular and the multiracial society in general as it may be less aware of Takaful. The main objective is to obtain data on why the lack of participation in Takaful or opt-out of
Takaful for their insurance needs. The research method involved 100 respondents; the questionnaire was distributed to different background customers at CIMB Bank in Shah
Alam, Selangor. This study examines four key hypotheses that relate factors affecting Takaful participation. All of these hypotheses were tested using the One Way Anova Analysis Method, Sample T-Test Analysis, Linear Regression and Pearson Correlation. The findings show that for income, public awareness and understanding factors affecting the participation of CIMB Bank customers against Takaful. In conclusion, there is still much effort required to provide clear understanding and awareness of Takaful to them.
The results of the proposal lead to specific recommendations to the government, the Takaful operator and next subsequent research.
