Abstract

The prevalen ceofburnout has become a significant issue in higher learning instituition in Malaysia. Past studies found that high risk of burnout among employee is due to high exposure to emotionally demanding work. The main characteristic of burnout is emotional exhaustion among the academic staff.As such, cross-sectional study was conducted to investigate the level of burnout and the relationship between occupational demand, job stress and social support with burnout among the
academic staff,College of Business in UUM. This study is a quantitative methodby distributing questionnaires consisting of 71 items comprising instruments measuring burnout, job demand, job stress and social support to the 103 respondents from School of Business Management, School of Islamic Business Studies, School of Finance
Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz, School of Economic, Finance and Banking and School of Technology, Management and Logistic. There sult shows that there is a medium level of burnout among academic staff of College of Business, UUM. Furthermore,there is a significant relationship between occupational demand and job stress and burnout. However,there is no significant relationship between social support and burnout. As such,to control the effect of job demand and job stress, this study propose for the implementation of Total Wellness and Health Promotion (TWHP), as it can provide more holistic approach to the academic staff. By educating and providing resources, the staff able to control the effect of occupational demand and job stress to mitigate burnout.
