Abstract

This purpose of this study is to identify the factors that are related to job satisfaction among secondary school graduate teachers in Kota Bharu district of Kelantan. The objectives of this study are to investigate (a) the factors which contribute to high job satisfaction and vise versa, (b) the relationship between intrinsic factors and job satisfaction, (c) the relationship between extrinsic factors and job satisfaction and (d) the influence of independent variables on job satisfaction.
172 teachers from six secondary schools participated in this study. A set of questionnaires consisting of 47 items using five-points Likert-type scale was used to measure the responses. Seven nul hypotheses have been constructed for this study. The statistical methods used for the data
analysis were descriptive and inferential statistic in which Pearson correlation and multiple regression were applied.
The findings revealed that (a) the three most satisfying factors are responsibility, organization policy and administration and opportunity for growth while the least satisfying factor is salary, (b) there were significant
relationship between the intrinsic factors tested, namely; responsibility, advancement and opportunity for growth and job satisfaction, (c) there were significant relationship between the extrinsic factors tested, namely; organization policy and administration, salary and working conditions and job satisfaction and (d) organization policy and
administration, working conditions and opportunity for growth showed significant influence on teacher job satisfaction.
Based on these findings, several suggestions have been put
forward with the hope to further enhance job satisfaction among graduate teachers.
