Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of demographic factors such as gender, qualification, school grade, experience, age and achievement in UPSR
examination in relation to time management of National Type (Tamil) Primary Schools headmasters in the state of Kedah Darul Aman. In this study, 50 headmasters are involved.
The Executive Time Management Instrument (ETMI) which was developed by Anthony W. Distasio (1985) was used to measure the time management of the school headmasters. This instrument was translated into Bahasa Malaysia and a test was conducted. The Cronbach value obtained is 0.60 as compared to 0.05 obtained by Anthony W. Distasio (1985).
In this study, six hypotheses were constructed and tested using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation test and crosstabulation. The hypotheses 1 through 3 tested
through t-test. ANOVA was used to test the remaining hypotheses. Pearson correlation and crosstabulation were used for the significant hypotheses. All the hypotheses were tested at the 0.05 level of significant.
The finding of this study indicated that: (1) there was a significant difference in time management based on gender of the Tamil school headmasters; (2) there was a
significant difference in time management based on the qualification of the school headmasters; (3) there was no significant difference in time management based on grade of the school; (4) there was a significant difference in time management based on the headmasters experience; (5) there was a significant difference in time management based on the age of headmasters; and (6) there was no significant difference in time management based on the achievement in UPSR examination. Explanation as to why the hypotheses were rejected or not rejected were explored.
The overall survey indicated that the headmasters of National Type (Tamil) Primary Schools in the state of Kedah Darul Aman have managed their time well. Finally new
avenues of research were proposed.
