Abstract

This study was conducted to investigate the awareness and perception among lecturers of the Perlis Teacher Training College towards the implementation of TQM and MS ISO 9002 in all the teacher training colleges in Malaysia. This study also attempted to determine the significant differences in lecturers’ awareness and perception existed based on the lecturers’ sex, age, job status and working
experience. The independent variables under this study were (i) the awareness of lecturers’ towards the importance of implementing TQM and MS ISO 9002, (ii) the
perception of lecturers towards the critical factors in ensuring the success of implementing TQM and MS ISO 9002 and, (iii) the problems in implementing TQM and MS ISO 9002 in Teacher Training Colleges.
This study involved 103 respondents, all fiom the Perlis Teacher Training College. Questionnaires consist of 10 questions on the awareness of lecturers towards the importance of implementing TQM and MS ISO 9002, 8 questions on the perception of lecturers towards the critical factors in ensuring the success of implementing TQM and MS ISO 9002 and I2 questions on the problems in implementing TQM and MS ISO 9002 in Teacher Training Colleges. For the problems, the aspects of the study were understanding, time, resources and views.
The data obtained was analyzed using the descriptive statistical method to determine the frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation. The inference statistical method includes t-test and one way ANOVA is used to analyze the data.
The findings show that the awareness of the lecturers in Perlis Teacher Training College are high and their perception towards the factors in ensuring the success of implementing TQM and MS ISO 9002 are critical. This study found that there is no significant difference in all the independent variables examined. However, the analysis of the problems in implementing TQM and MS ISO 9002 showed that Teacher Training Colleges faced problems such as understanding, time, resources, commitment and support in the implementation of TQM and MS ISO 9002 standard.
