Abstract
The aim this research is to examine the relationship between attitude and work commitment based on the demographic factors, the work environment, the job itself and its obstacles. The researcher has constructed a research model adapted from the models by Breckler (1984) and Luthans (1989). The research is conducted at the Kangar District Police Headquarters in Perlis. The subjects of the research comprised of 344 police officers of various ranks namely from constable to the subjects consisting three sections : Demographic and personal details, attitudes (r), one-way ANOVA, T-Test and Multiple Regression. The result indicated that attitudes toward work have signifiant difference based on factors such as age, co-worker relationship and courses on skill enhancement for the police officers. On the other hand, factors like gender, race, relationship with leadership with leader, relationship with co-worker, office facilities, and environment and skills enhancement courses that were provided. Moreover, age, race, pay, ranks and experiences do not have significant relationship with work commitment. Consequently, attitudes toward work have a significant relationship to understanding one's work roles as apposed to consraints have significant difference on work commitment rather than on work attitude.
