Abstract

This study was conducted to examine the factors that influence organizational commitment among public university lecturers, East Coast of Malaysia. This study only focused on state government public universities in the East Coast region of Malaysia. There are three public universities that have been selected according to the
Ministry of Education, namely Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK), and Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP). Among lecturers from universities on the East Coast of Malaysia, 30 individuals were evaluated for factors related to workload and work-life balance against organizational commitment.
This study examines the relationship of workload and work-life balance between the organizational commitments of lecturers. A total of 306 questionnaires were distributed for further analysis, but 295 questionnaires were returned and only 291 questionnaires could be used for this study. A quantitative research method is used and
primary data is obtained from public university lecturers in the East Coast of Malaysia. The data were analysed using version 23 of Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS). The results revealed that workload and work-life balance had a significant influence on organizational commitment among lecturers. In addition, the results also revealed that, compared to workload factors, work-life balance has a high influence on organizational commitment among lecturers. These findings will encourage any university management to take the necessary steps to increase organizational commitment among lecturers.
