Abstract

The use of augmented reality applications as teaching aids among teachers is becoming more widespread. Therefore, it is a necessity to develop an augmented reality application model to improve the teaching and learning process. Accordingly, the purpose of this research is to develop an augmented reality application model that focuses on learning theory and instructional design principles in producing teaching aids based on augmented reality. In line with the purpose of the study, an augmented reality application model that combines concepts and principles in the Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning (CTML), Principles of Multimedia Learning, and Gagne's Teaching Scene is developed. This study is a quantitative case study. Based on the design of this study, there are two phases in it, namely the phase of developing the model and the phase of evaluating the applicability of the model. The design and development phase of the model uses the Fuzzy Delphi approach involving 12 experts to verify the construction of constructs and elements found in the development of the model. The Fuzzy Delphi technique is a systematic method to evaluate, verify and make decisions in modifying all constructs and elements required to develop an augmented reality design model through expert consensus. Each item that contains a threshold value (d) that does not reach a value of 0.2 will be translated as ACCEPTED based on expert agreement. Accordingly, the results of expert agreement show that the elements in the ApRLu Model are classified into three main constructs, namely the technology skill construct (d=0.098), the instructional design construct (d=0.181) and the application type construct (d=0.175). Next, the evaluation phase and the usability of the model involved 35 teachers selected by sampling in order to produce teaching aids based on the wider reality and then evaluate the usability of the model. The produced model is presented to see the appropriateness of the construct that has been developed in parallel with the expert's view in the first phase. For the purpose of interpreting the applicability assessment of the ApRLu Model, the researcher used a questionnaire approach. The results show that the evaluation and usability of the model is at a high level with a mean value of 4.16 (SP=0.696). Each model usability item gets a high mean interpretation value, which exceeds the mean interpretation value of 4.01-5.00. This finding clearly shows that the suitability of the ApRLu Model developed to practice usability as a guide for teachers to produce teaching aids based on augmented reality.
