Investment propensity among Malaysian youth in the stock market

This study is to investigate the association between six independent variables which separated by significant association namely psychological behaviour, financial literacy, risk tolerance and insignificant association including attitude, perceivable behavioural control, and subjective norms. To achieve the study objective, the primary data has been collected by means of questionnaires. The questionnaires have been distributed to Malaysian youth which 100 surveys have been successful collected. This paper's findings came from a survey of 100 Malaysian youth respondents. To analyse the data, this study has utilised Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM). The findings indicated that the dependent variable and independent factors had both a significant and an insignificant association. Psychological behaviour significantly positively influence stock market investment intention. This study in line with the Phan and Zhou (2013) study's conclusions. However, it was discovered that financial literacy, risk tolerance, attitude, subjective norms and perceived behaviour control had insignificant impact on Malaysian youths' intentions to invest in the stock market. This study's conclusions contradict those of earlier research, which are not consistent with one other (Ibrahim & Arshad, 2018; Lai, 2019; Ryu & Ko, 2019). Finally, by better understanding the variables that influenced Malaysian youth’s investment intention, this study will be useful to future researcher, the government, and investment firms.
