Abstract

Global warming, climate change and expansion for energy resources are global issues that often the subject of discussion by various parties. According to the World Energy Outlook 2019 analysis, the application of green technology is the best solution to meet world's demand for energy and the Academy of Science of Africa (ASSAF) declared that green technology capable to solve environmental problems. However, the practice of green technology among Malaysians found low where the effect has resulted in an increase in the amount of greenhouse gas emissions and an increase in the mean annual temperature. Thus, the application of green technology practices through the curriculum has been encouraged by the government and teachers are the most influential agents in this matter. Besides, the literature review shows that teachers' awareness and motivation towards green technology practices are still minimal. Thus, this study was conducted to identify the level and influence of awareness and motivation, evaluate the moderating effect of knowledge and gender on awareness and motivation with the acceptance of green technology and to test a structural model that predicts the level of acceptance of green technology practices among teachers. This quantitative study involved 379 primary school teachers in selected states such as Perlis, Kedah and Penang. Data collected through questionnaires analysed using SPSS and SmartPLS. Findings show teachers have high level of awareness and motivation but green practices still at moderate level. Meanwhile, the influence of awareness and motivation has a positive relationship with green technology practices. Next, knowledge as a moderator had significant effect and gender doesn’t effect on awareness and motivation in the acceptance of green technology practices among teachers. Moreover, the results contribute to the Ministry of Education via development of school policy, especially in green technology education. The structural model that has been produced states awareness and motivation factors as important predictors of green technology practices. Further studies suggested in terms of study methods, study samples and study locations.
