Abstract

The issue of repayment of education loans by the National Higher Education Fund (PTPTN) has been in the media spotlight for the past few years. The reason is that almost every year, the loan debt shows a significant increase that has an impact on many parties. Therefore, this study pursued to validate the instrument and test the theory of behavior, namely the Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA), in the context of Malaysia's repayment of educational loans. This study uses a quantitative approach as a cross-sectional survey. Research data was collected using two questionnaires, the Bukhari Religiosity Scale, (measure religiosity) and questionnaires from Student Attitude towards Education Loan Repayment (measure borrowers' attitudes and intentions). Simple random sampling techniques, as many as 373 respondents were selected from three public universities in Malaysia, namely Universiti Utara Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Mara and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. Pilot study data analysis was analyzed using SPSS version 24.0, while actual data used AMOS 22. Analysis of study data through SEM-AMOS involves measurement models (factor loading, convergent validity, composite reliability, and discriminant validity) and structural models (goodness-of-fit). The study found a relationship and influence between religiosity and attitudes toward the intention to repay educational loans. In addition, the validity and reliability of questionnaires through a high Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) are valid to measure the religiosity, attitudes and intentions of education loans in Malaysia. This study successfully formed a model of religiosity, attitudes and intentions of repayment that corresponded to the research data. In conclusion, the developing this research model will assist towards the improvement of borrower selection policy in the future.
