Abstract
Remote work has become more common in contemporary organisations, impacting various aspects of the employee experience. These characteristics encompass employment satisfaction, sustainability-related outcomes, and overall job performance. This study aims to examine the intricate relationship among remote work, job satisfaction, sustainable outcomes, and employee performance in the manufacturing business in the Klang Valley, Malaysia. More Malaysian organisations are considering implementing remote working environments after the implementation of Flexible working arrangements in Section 60P and Section 60Q in the Employment Act 1955, which poses a dilemma for some managers to identify if the work performance is affected due to the changes in the working environment. This study aims to ascertain the influence of this change on job performance. This study examines the Job Characteristics Theory to determine its relevance in supporting performance management in remote work settings. Employee performance is the dependent variable under investigation, whereas the independent variables being studied are the remote working environment, job satisfaction, and sustainability outcome. The main source for this study is a quantitative research method utilising quantitative research. A questionnaire, meticulously crafted, was delivered to 120 respondents employed in the manufacturing sector to gather information. The data was collected and processed using SPSS version 29. This version encompassed reliability analysis, descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and regression analysis. The study shows a high positive correlation between remote work, job satisfaction, sustainability outcomes, and staff productivity. This research reveals the impact that these connections have on the operations of businesses and the welfare of their staff. Effective organisational practices and a performance management system can enhance employees' job satisfaction by enabling flexibility and autonomy in a remote working environment. Implementing environmental and sustainable practices such as becoming paperless, promoting work-life balance, energy-saving initiatives, conducting virtual meetings, and emphasising time management may benefit employee performance. The study discusses the theoretical and practical ramifications of the findings, as well as the study's limitations and possible future research areas.
