Abstract

This study presents a comprehensive investigation into the influence of risk mitigation strategies on supply chain resilience within the Electronics Manufacturing Service (EMS) industry in Penang. With the growing complexity of global supply chains, disruptions have become unavoidable, so an organization must implement effective risk management practices to maintain operational continuity. Through a detailed case study approach, this research examines the various risk mitigation strategies employed by EMS companies operating in Penang to enhance their supply chain resilience capability. In this study, we employ qualitative interview methodologies to investigate and explore how various risk mitigation strategies enhance supply chain resilience while facing various challenges. By adopting a qualitative approach, we aim to capture the rich insights and contextual factors that shape decision-making processes within a dynamic Electronics Manufacturer Services industry in Penang. Our findings reveal the multifaceted nature of risk mitigation strategies, encompassing proactive measures such as diversification of suppliers and geographic location, inventory management, and collaborative partnerships, as well as the deployment of innovative supply chain technology to navigate unforeseen disruptions. In conclusion, this research underscores the importance of proactive risk management practices in building resilient supply chains, particularly in the high-tech electronic manufacturing industry. By understanding the dynamics of risk mitigation strategies and their implications for supply chain resilience, organizations can better prepare for and adapt to disruptions, thereby enhancing their competitiveness and sustainability in an increasingly turbulent global marketplace while providing global material solutions that offer the company’s customers an optimal level of value-added services and flexibility at the acceptable total cost.
