Abstract
Crime implication on a country's economic growth has been discussed by most academic researchers and those involved in making policies. Previous studies have shown the impact of cost to society and economy due to uncontrolled crimes
activities. In such cases, the work performance of the main law enforcement agencies is important in ensuring the nation’s economic growth. The main law enforcement work performance is determined by a number of variable factors. For this study,
transformational leadership dimensions were tested as independent variables over their effectiveness on teamwork performance among officers in the main law enforcement agencies. Organizational commitment was also tested as a mediating factor in the relationship between both variables. This study focused on five main law enforcement agencies of the Federal Territory of Putrajaya in the investigation and prevention of crime division. These two divisions are most significant for the study due to their direct involvement in combating crime. The quantitative study design was used and the questionnaire surveys involved 254 sample respondents.
The analysis factor findings show that only two dimensions of transformational leadership could be used to further the analysis - inspirational motivation and individual consideration. Both dimensions were found to have positive and significant relationship with teamwork performance. The organizational commitment partially mediated the relationship between both dimensions over teamwork performance. This study concludes with a discussion on the findings, research implication as well as the limitations and suggestions for future research.
