Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify the level of hygiene practices related to dengue disease in Selangor. Previous studies have shown that the consciousness (from aspects of knowledge, acceptance and action) of the community requires an emperical study as it can induce a person's practice to be better or otherwise. The objective of this study is to clarify the level of hygiene care practices related to dengue disease in Selangor; studying the effect of knowledge on hygiene care practices among dengue cases in Selangor; examines the effect of acceptance on hygiene care practices among dengue cases in Selangor; as well as identifying the effect of action on hygiene practices among dengue cases in Selangor. A survey on the community in Selangor involves nine districts with a total of 447 respondents. Information from the survey was analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques and Pearson correlation. The findings show that the level of hygiene care practices by the people in Selangor on dengue disease is high (84.9 per cent). In the context of the knowledge, the acceptance and action aspect of the public on hygiene practices is also significant at the level of p≤0.01. In fact, the overall relationship between awareness and hygiene practices is also significant at the level of p≤0.01. Hence, the level of awareness and practice of hygiene care has led to significant relationships. The findings of this study found that it is different from the research problem statement. Dengue cases in Selangor that are often in high positions compared to other states in Selangor in 2016 and 2017 of 5,136 to 3,221 may be due to other factors requiring further research. However, studies suggest that institutional and program improvements need to be expanded not only focusing on the community but should emphasize other aspects such as climate change and tourism management itself. This is because these aspects can also have an impact on the dengue epidemic
in Selangor.
