Abstract
Education is a fundamental requirement in human development. Education can change the destiny and direction of an individual in the future. In Malaysia, Indian students are still lagging behind in education compared to others. There are various factors that
have been identified as the cause of the dropout of Indian students. Among them; the problem of lack of resilience has left students unable to cope with the challenges of life and drop out of school. The purpose of this thesis is to research the impact of resilience factor among B40 Indian students on dropout in Kuala Muda district of Kedah state. The objective of the research is to identify patterns and characteristics of students' and the resilience impact school dropout problems. In addition, the study also evaluated strategies for enhancing self-resilience among the students. This study uses
dimensions of self-resilience in the Masten and Reed Resilience Model. The scope of the research focused on B40 Indian students in the Kuala Muda District and used qualitative methods of in-depth interviews with the respondents. The results of the thesis show that B40 Indian students lack the self-resilience to cope with the various
challenges of school life and make them decide to quit school. However, the passage of time has brought maturity of mind and they still have the hope and confidence in themselves to improve their lives despite their difficulties and shortcomings. In order to address the problem of self-resilience, the study proposes several strategic steps and provides inputs to strengthen the nature of resilience factor especially in the context of Indian students.
