Abstract
Higher lnstitutes of Learning which train and impart knowledge to future headmaster must have curriculum set in accordance with the specified tasks of a headmaster. The realization of training headmaster has resulted in the
existence of learning centers with the aim of producing future headmasters who are competent in carrying out their duties. As an anitial step in designing a curriculum for headmaster ship, a task analysis, aimed at identifying the competence of a headmaster at job entry level was used in this study. The task analysis method was used through the task inventory
approach to obtain the required information. The design for this study was a descriptive quantitative survey. A total of fifty respondents comprising the twenty of Headmasters, ten Senior Assistants of Curriculum, ten Senior Assistants of Student Affair, and ten of Assistant Teachers were involved in this survey. The instrument used in this survey was a set of questionnaires
consisting of nine job descriptions an fifty tasks of the headmasters at primary schools. The overall return rate was 100%. The data collected from each task was analyzed and its status was examined individually. Based on
the Assessment Results Guide for the Importance Level, the status of the task was either retained or rejected using mean value and standard deviation value. From the total of fifty tasks proposed, majority of them were retained and as a whole could be categorized as very important. Hence, this show that the competence of all the tasks is necessarily to be acquired by the headmaster at their initial stage of work, and also forms the basic in
designing a curriculum for the headmaster ship course at the Higher Institutes of Learning in Malaysia
