Abstract

This study examines the direct relationship between employee safety, role conflict, organizational support, workload and job satisfaction, as well as effects of emotional intelligence as a moderating variable. Conservation Resources Theory (COR) has been integrated to explain the possible relationship between the variables in the study model. Additionally, this study used quantitative approaches to obtain survey data and using stratified random sampling techniques based on simple random sampling. 700 questionnaires were sent to relevant departments at the Department of Immigration. Out of the 700, 427 were received and only 409 questionnaires were used for statistical analysis purpose with feedback rate of 58.4%. The target group was from the support group that includes Grade KP17/19, 22 and 26. After obtaining the data, descriptive analysis was done using SPSS, and inference analysis using software SmartPLS, which is a variance tool of modelling equation structure. The findings show that employee safety,
role conflict, organizational support and workload have significant relationships with job satisfaction. Emotional intelligence acts as a moderating variable in the relationship between organizational support and job satisfaction. As for the relationship between employee safety, role conflict and workload with job satisfaction, emotional intelligence does not act as a moderating variable. Therefore, development of emotions intelligence needs to be improved to enable employees to have more time to understand the concepts and principles of emotional intelligence to overcome stress at work The results of this study can contribute to enhancing knowledge about relationships between employee safety, role conflict, organizational support, workload and job satisfaction, and emotional intelligence as a moderator. With these findings, practitioners can gain more in depth knowledge of emotional intelligence to employees and factors that can lead to job dissatisfaction within the organization.
