Abstract
Tangible heritage (WK) as a tourism object has the potential to provide an economic impact for the City of Banda Aceh. However, the management of tangible heritage faces polemics among stakeholders in the City of Banda Aceh. This study aims to examine the history and potential of WK and analyze the successful achievements of tangible heritage management and the challenges and strategies in tangible heritage management, so that it can be used as a tourism object in the City of Banda Aceh. This study is descriptive with a triangulation approach. The triangulation approach is done by researchers to compare data from various sources in the form of observations, interviews, and documentation. The data collection procedure was carried out through observation of 55 WK objects, while interviews were conducted with 34 informants using an interview protocol. The results of the study prove that the government of Banda Aceh has taken several steps to preserve WK as a tourism object, namely online registration, designation as WK by the Mayor and restoration and placing 'keepers'. The findings of the study also show that there are still weaknesses in the management of tangible heritage objects, such as efforts are still abandoned, there is no further study on the existing inventory of tangible heritage and not implementing preservation measures to the maximum. In addition, the difference in the views of stakeholders in heritage management significantly resulted in opposition from Non-Governmental Organizations (LSM). The local government of Banda Aceh City also did not follow the rules in managing tangible heritage and resulted in the resistance of the local community. This study contributes new knowledge to the field of tangible heritage and significant tourism in the City of Banda Aceh. This study proves that tangible heritage is very significant to the city's tourism industry and comprehensive efforts need to be implemented by the authorities to ensure the survival of this industry.
