Abstract
Integrity and work ethics within organizations in Malaysia remain a challenge, despite Islam, as the official religion, emphasizing the importance of practicing high work ethics. However, there is still a lack of systematic measurement instruments to assess the level of adherence to Islamic work ethics within organizations. Therefore, this study aims to develop an instrument that can empirically measure the practice of Islamic work ethics. This study aims to develop and validate an instrument that can measure the practice of Islamic work ethics in organizations in Peninsular Malaysia. The main objectives of this study are to identify the dimensions and characteristics that can measure the practice of Islamic work ethics, to construct an instrument based on these dimensions and characteristics, and to analyze the validity and reliability of the developed instrument. This study employs a mixed-method approach. The qualitative method involves a literature review and interviews with industry and academic experts to identify the dimensions and characteristics of Islamic work ethics. Subsequently, the quantitative method is used to analyze the validity and reliability of the instrument through statistical tests of content validity of the items and Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA). The study identified five main dimensions in Islamic work ethics, namely Al-Taqwa, Al-Masuliyyah, Al-Itqan, Al-Qist, and Al-Ihsan. A total of 47 items representing these five dimensions were validated in terms of reliability and applicability as an instrument for measuring Islamic work ethics. This study contributes to theory and practice in measuring Islamic work ethics by providing an instrument that can be used by organizations. This instrument can assist management in assessing adherence to Islamic work ethics, thereby reducing the risk of misconduct such as corruption and abuse of power. Overall, this study reinforces the role of Islamic values in shaping a work culture that is more integrated and productive.
