Abstract

Solar energy is one of the renewable energies, and it is a very important energy as it can replace fossil fuels to reduce environmental pollution. Resource utilization efficiency is increasingly critical. This has impacted the environment and caused the reduction of existing energy resources. Therefore, solar energy is an alternative energy that can replace other non-renewable energy especially electricity because the use of electric power in Malaysia is experiencing a considerable increase in every year so that the available energy cannot accommodate daily use. The objective of this study is to measure the level of public acceptance and awareness of the use of solar energy as one of the energies to be used in Malaysia. The primary data was used and obtained through the circulation of questionnaires from 200 respondents in Alor Star, Kedah. The logit model was applied in analyzing data received from the questionnaires. The results show that factors such as household income and level of education are significant to the acceptance and awareness of the use of solar energy as individuals with high household income and high levels of education tend to accept solar energy consumption. In conclusion, solar energy is positively associated with public acceptance against the use of solar energy. When the use of solar energy as one of the materials to generate electricity increases, the general acceptance of solar energy use increases. This study will benefit the government to create a new policy that encourages all communities to use solar energy as one of the energies that can replace electricity in the future.
