Abstract

This research paper aims to investigate the correlation between a high-performance work system and engagement of employee within the telecommunication industry in Petaling Jaya. As organizations grow more aware of the crucial importance of
engagement of employee in attaining long-lasting competitive advantage, it becomes essential to comprehend the mechanisms that facilitate such engagement. This study is using quantitative data by utilizing a closed-ended online survey form from Google
Form to investigate the relationship between high-performance work systems, including staffing, training and learning, rewards and recognition, participation and empowerment, and engagement of employee within the telecommunications sector in Petaling Jaya. The sample consists of 175 employees from two prominent
telecommunications companies in Petaling Jaya, CelcomDigi Berhad and Telekom Malaysia Berhad. Normality test, Pearson’s correlation, multiple regression analysis, reliability analysis and One-Way ANOVA was used to assess the relationship between
high-performance work systems and engagement of employee. Initial results indicate a significant correlation between the adoption of high-performance work systems elements, including staffing, training and learning, rewards and recognition, participation and empowerment, and the level of engagement of employee within the
telecommunications sector in Petaling Jaya. The research findings also suggest that engagement of employee within the telecommunication industry in Petaling Jaya is mostly influenced by participation. For future research, it is suggested to conduct this
study with various bigger companies from different industry that is located in Petaling Jaya. This way, researcher can identify exemplary approaches and insights derived from various industries, which resulting in enhancing organizational success and promote employee well-being. Further investigations in other industries would be helpful to facilitate the transfer of information and innovation, and improve organisational practice.
