Abstract
Chor music is part of the cultural heritage of the Mongolian people. In recent years, however, globalisation and modernisation have eroded many of its traditional elements. The younger generation’s perception of, and interest in, Chor music has been increasingly shaped by external influences. This study explores the core elements of Chor music in both traditional and contemporary contexts. The study examines the significance of Chor music as a medium of innovative communication within modern society. By analysing its traditional and contemporary features, the study identifies the key qualities that resonate with younger audiences. Furthermore, the study proposes guidelines for the preservation and development of Chor music through a framework that emphasises innovation, preservation, cross-cultural fusion, and communication. The study employs a qualitative research method. Data were collected through semi structured interviews with five experts and twelve music enthusiasts. Thematic analysis was applied to interpret the data. In addition, two case studies of musical works were examined and analysed using content analysis to explore both traditional and contemporary expressions of Chor music. Four major themes were identified: innovation, preservation, cross-cultural fusion, and communication. The study found that the modern dissemination of Chor music requires the maintenance of its core national characteristics. At the same time, contemporary elements should be incorporated to engage younger audiences through diverse forms of communication and interaction. This study offers a framework for the protection and development of Chor music. It emphasises the balance between innovation and tradition, providing both theoretical and practical references for creative work
