Abstract
The Malaysian media sector has undergone fast development resulted from digital disruption, changing consumer behaviors, and new business models, offering possibilities and uncertainties for media professionals. At the same time, the creative content and media sector is also experiencing a talent shortage, with many organizations reporting difficulty attracting and retaining skilled professionals in fields such as content creation, digital production, and multimedia development. Therefore, findings the right solutions are seen crucial. This study is conducted with the intention to capture factors that might influence intention to stay among employees in media industry. The study tested four independent variables namely, social support, monetary reward, career growth and work-life balance against intention to stay. A total of 163 questionnaire were distributed online using Google form with response rate of 100%. In this study, hypotheses for direct relationship were tested using multiple regression analyses. Results showed that only monetary reward and career growth were positively related to intention to stay. The findings indicate that employees intention to stay will increase if the organization provide them with attractive monetary reward and have high opportunity for career growth. However, both social support and work-life balance were not related to employee intention to stay. These findings provide new insight on the retention issues. The question of why providing social support and worklife balance do not influence intention to stay provide opportunity for future research to reconcile these explanations.
