Abstract
The food industry plays a fundamental role in the global economy but encounters persistent challenges such as supply chain disruptions, product quality concerns, and logistical complexities. To sustain effective supply chain performance (SCP), companies must prioritize risk mitigation and foster resilience to adapt to dynamic consumer behaviors, evolving food safety standards, and external shocks, including natural disasters. SCP reflects the collective efforts of stakeholders to achieve customer satisfaction through product availability, timely delivery, and efficient resource utilization. Integrating supply chain risk management (SCRM) with organizational resilience is essential for maintaining operational stability. However, empirical research examining this relationship remains limited, particularly in developing economies. This study investigates the causal relationship between SCRM and SCP within Jordan’s food industry and examines the moderating role of supply chain resilience (SCR). A structured questionnaire was developed encompassing key constructs of risk identification, risk management, risk detection and mitigation, and risk disturbance. A simple random sample of 338 companies from a population of 2,668 operating in Jordan’s food sector was targeted. Data were collected from supply chain and logistics managers, and 325 valid responses were analyzed using SmartPLS 4 software. Results revealed significant relationships between risk identification and performance, and between risk management and performance, while the relationships involving risk detection, mitigation, and disturbance were statistically insignificant. SCR exhibited a strong moderating effect between risk identification and management on SCP, underscoring the importance of resilience in enhancing operational continuity and performance during disruptions. The study recommends strengthening mechanisms for risk identification, improving risk management capabilities, and fostering more resilient supply chains to ensure sustained performance in crisis contexts. The originality of this research lies in addressing the underexplored Jordanian food industry by integrating SCRM and SCR within a unified analytical model, thereby offering novel insights into how resilience reinforces supply chain performance amid uncertainty
