Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of the Imam from the Islamic perspective. Imam (priest) is a very noble post for Muslims. This post has its own role to preserve the holiness of Islam through the standards outlined by the religion. As known, Imam is not only to be the administrator of the mosque, but its role is through a congregation. Thus, the objective of this study is to examine the concept of the Imam according to Islamic perspective. Next is to identify the role and criteria in accordance with the Islamic Religious Council and the role played by all Imam in the district of Kulim, Kedah. Methodologies used in this study are library research and fieldwork. Library research was done by gathering data from relevant books whereas field research involved interviews. The imam plays a big role in enlightening the mosques hence creating a mosque loving community. This study found that the role of the Imam in Kulim District that meets the standards of the Islamic perspective has been successful in the mosque
