Abstract

Sustainability of change management in hospital of the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) require support elements of emotional intelligence, servant leadership and personality. Specifically this study aims to examine the relationship between emotional intelligence and style of change facilitators. This study also examines the relationship of emotional intelligence, servant leadership and personality towards the style of change facilitators among MOH hospital managers. This study identifies the moderating effect of servant leadership and personality on the relationship between emotional intelligence that can contribute to the change facilitator style of hospital managers. This research design uses quantitative methods and questionnaires adopted from the Change Facilitator Styles Questionnaires, Emotional Competency Inventory, Servant Leadership Scale and Personality Five-Factor Model of Personality (NEO PI-R) for data collection. The study sample consisted of 352 respondents comprising of MOH hospital managers using a proportional stratified random sampling. The theoretical framework for this study based on Facilitator Style Theory of Change, Emotional Intelligence Theory and Servant Leadership Theory. Statistical Product and Service Solution (SPSS IBM) 23 software and Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) version 4 were used to analyse the data of this study. The finding of study on influence of the relationship between emotional intelligence and servant leadership show a significant relationship with the change facilitator style. However, the Big-5 personality does not show a positive and significant direct relationship to the change facilitator style. In addition, the results also found that servant leadership and the Big-5 personality do not have a moderating effect on the relationship between emotional intelligence and the change facilitator style. Internal consistency reliability analysis and construct validity in the model for the lower-level constructs, especially the multidimensional sub - constructs of change facilitator style, emotional intelligence, servant leadership and Big-5 personality, were found to meet the reliability and construct validity requirements for the study analysis. Accordingly, the findings of this study are expected to help future researchers understand more deeply about the moderating effect of servant leadership and the Big-5 personality on the relationship between emotional intelligence and change facilitator styles among MOH hospital managers.
