Abstract

This study investigates the impact of the Learna AI application on developing English speaking skills among middle school students in a rural Iraqi setting. Using a mixed methods quasi experimental design, sixty students were divided equally into an experimental group using Learna AI and a control group receiving traditional instruction. The findings revealed that students who used Learna AI demonstrated significant improvement in their speaking performance, particularly in fluency, pronunciation, and communicative competence, compared to those taught through traditional methods. The qualitative data further confirmed students’ positive perceptions of the AI-based learning experience, highlighting its effectiveness in supporting rural learners The findings align with previous research supporting AI's role in reducing speaking anxiety and enhancing oral proficiency. Despite limitations related to sample size, duration, and infrastructure, the study demonstrates the potential of AI based tools in improving speaking performance in underserved contexts. Recommendations are made for integrating such technologies into language education, especially in rural areas.
